Teeth implants are the best replacements for dentures . It still a very expensive solution but for the patient who can afford this solution it will be the best. The concept is simple the jaw bone is drilled under local anesthesia and a titanium post in inserted in the drilled host.
Usually the dentist will allow 3-5 months for the bone to heal around the post then a porcelain crown is attached to the inserted post. Some times we insert the crown just after the insertion of the post , a technique which called immediate loading. The technique is great specially when the lost tooth is in the anterior segment and the patient don’t want to look bad for 3-5 months, but the case should be selected very careful as this technique is not suitable for patients with impaired healing or huge chewing force.
Some times the teeth implants are contraindicated like in the cases of severe osteoporosis, uncontrolled diabetes or very bad oral hygiene. In fact the list of contraindications is becoming shorter and shorter as a result of the excessive researches and developments.
Also the teeth implants can be used to support dentures in cases of completely edentulus patient. In these cases 2-6 implants in inserted in each jaw and the denture in attached to the posts through ball and socket or bar and clips systems. The denture can be removed cleaned and reinserted again. Dentures in this cases will be more stable and effective.
last thing is the cost of teeth implants that range between 1000 $ and 2000$ for each unit wich vary from country to country and doctor to doctor.
